A Regular Called Meeting of the City Commission was held on Wednesday, JANUARY 3, 2018, at 5:00 P.M. in the Kenneth T. Nunn Council Room in City Hall, Texas City, Texas. A quorum having been met, the meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Mayor Matthew T. Doyle.

REGULAR ITEMS
a.
Consider and take action on Ordinance No. 18-01, to amend the City of Texas City fiscal budget to create an additional dispatcher position. (Finance)
Laura Boyd, Finance Director, explained that this budget amendment is to create an additional police dispatcher position and appropriate funding for the position. This will bring the total number of dispatcher positions to 12.

Commissioner At Large Dee Ann Haney to approve Ordinance No. 18-01.

STAFF COMMENTS
Beth Steiner, Library Director, stated that the Read to Feed program will began on January 1, 2018 and ends February 14, 2018. For every 1 hour spent reading, $1 will be donated to the Galveston County Food Bank, courtesy of an anonymous donor. Ms. Steiner also introduced Luke Alvey, who will be the acting Library Director when she retires at the end of the month.
Dennis Harris, Director of Recreation and Tourism, gave an update on the NASCO Aquatic Safety School that Texas City was selected to host. There are currently 30 participants from 5 different states. Two future events that will be taking place are youth basketball starting on January 13, 2018, and the Mardi Gras Parade on January 27, 2018.

COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
Commissioner Jones gave a memorial speech in remembrance of PFC. Rufus Hood. January 7, 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of his sacrifice. Mayor Pro Tem Roberts thanked Commissioner Jones for her speech and the veterans of the Vietnam War.
Commissioner Bowie reminded everyone that Youth In Government will be held on January 17, 2018. She also mentioned that La Marque ISD will be having their annual MLK Parade and service project on January 15, 2018.
Commissioner Jones urged everyone to have their children participate in MLK activities.
Commissioner Clark wished Beth Steiner a happy retirement.

ADJOURNMENT
Having no further business, Commissioner At Large Dee Ann Haney made a MOTION to ADJOURN at 5:11 p.m.; the motion was SECONDED by Commissioner District 3 Dorthea Jones. All present voted AYE. MOTION CARRIED.
